Recently while travelling through the UK I picked up .net magazine, which I’d been hearing about and seeing some of.
I rarely end up actually reading all the way through magazines. It always seems like there are only one or two articles within that actually have any value. .net on the other hand has undergone some surgery as mentioned in Andy Budd’s article above (He happens to also be on the magazine’s advisory panel along with other well known web specialists like Molly Holzschlag, and Andy Clarke among others). And the surgery was worth it. Whatever you may have thought of the magazine before, it won’t compare.
Inside issue 153 for Summer 2006 I found no articles which did not at least peripherally interest me, and more often than not I was utterly sucked in. I brought this magazine with me to the “mens room” more than once. This is no small thing. Trust me. The article contributors range from John Oxton of www.joshuaink.com to Patrick McNeil of www.designmeltdown.com. The articles were informative and engaging, which I find to be a rare combination. On top of that, its just dang pretty. The design is sharp and full of easy to navigate block layout. As we say in Colorado – “This aint their first rodeo!”
The magazine came with a dvd full of apps, images, fonts, and tutorials. I felt like a kid again. Currently the magazine is primarily sold in the UK, which prompts me to move there in order to save on the shipping it costs to get it to these United States.
